Introduction and Purpose
PrepEasy is a tool designed to evaluate bowel preparation quality using photographs taken by participants during the colonoscopy preparation process. The purpose of this project is to help develop and improve an artificial intelligence model that may assist patients and healthcare teams in identifying whether bowel preparation appears adequate before a scheduled colonoscopy.
This tool is not a medical device, is not intended to provide medical advice, and does not replace instructions from your healthcare provider. The information you provide will be used only for research, training, and improvement of the PrepEasy system, and will not be used to guide or change your medical care. Participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time.
Acknowledgment of Risks and Benefits
Benefits: The data collected will be used solely for the development and validation of the colonoscopy preparation assessment application. This research aims to improve the quality and efficiency of colonoscopy procedures by providing a reliable, non-invasive method for patients to assess their preparation status. There are no direct medical or financial benefits to you for participating in this initial data collection.
Risks: Participation involves minimal risk. The primary risks are related to privacy and data security. We commit to implementing robust security measures to protect your data. All data will be anonymized or de-identified to the maximum extent possible to prevent the linking of data to your personal identity.
Confidentiality and Data Handling
Data Collected: The data collected during this phase may include images of stool preparation collected via your phone’s camera and basic descriptive information related to the image (e.g., preparation type used).
Confidentiality: All data collected will be treated with strict confidentiality. Personal identifying information, such as your name, contact details, and specific health records, will not be collected or linked to the images and assessment data. The collected data will be stored securely in encrypted cloud file storage and access will be limited to the research team.
Voluntary Participation and Withdrawal
Your participation in this data collection is entirely voluntary. You have the right to refuse to participate or to withdraw your consent at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. If you choose to withdraw, any data collected up to that point will be removed from the study database, to the extent that it can be identified. To withdraw from the study or to ask questions, please contact Alvin Oomen.
Waiver of Liability
By clicking "Accept" below, I release and discharge the developers, the research team, and any associated institutions from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action arising from my participation in this initial data collection phase, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct. Additionally, I relinquish any right to financial compensation, ownership, royalties, or other benefits arising from present or future commercial uses of the PrepEasy Application/AI Model.
